Twelve Portals. Mathew employs a mix of hand rendering, model-making and digital manipulation with his artwork.An Associate of Yellowfields, Mathew is an architect, academic and conceptual artist, specialising in spatial design. He has an interest in public realm, regeneration strategies and our phenomenological response to space. Through both practice and academic research Mathew has focused upon the relationship between user experience, place-making and critical planning.
As an architect, Mathew has experience working within large London-based practices and as an independent, collaborating with the well-known architectural theorist and landscape architect, Charles Jencks.
Mathew lectures at the University of Plymouth and is currently undertaking a PhD examining role of phenomenology in contemporary architecture. As well as lecturing, Mathew is an external examiner on the MA Interior and Spatial Design course at Chelsea College of Art and Design.
His (architectural) artwork has been published in the architectural press and exhibited at the Royal Academy (RA).
