South African Game Reserve

In July, a land owner in South Africa commissioned Jason to design and produce a map that depicted their 27,000 ha game reserve. The reserve plays a vital role in conserving and enhancing the wildlife heritage of South Africa through breeding programmes, research and wildlife management.

This decorative map was originated in Adobe Illustrator at A0 size, a scale of approximately 1:30,000. A range of techniques were employed to reflect the topography, landcover and underlying geology. Elevation has been shown with both contours and basic shaded relief, generated from height data. Aerial imagery and a basic original map also served as compliation sources. The map, whilst topographically accurate, was designed to be decorative; modern but echoing some historical techniques and styles. Much reduced scale extracts are shown here.

“Jason has produced an exceptionally high class bespoke map for us with intricate, accurate detailing. He was a pleasure to work with and patiently guided us through each step with useful information, helpful suggestions and samples. We are absolutely delighted with our final product and would highly recommend Yellowfields.”

The map was printed as a Giclée art print on matt Hahnemühle Photorag paper by The Print Space, London.
