Whilst the focus here is on map-making, Studio Yellowfields also offers graphic art and design as supporting service. Effective visual communication is paramout to connecting with your audience—create › engage › inform › inspire. Our aim is to connect with the end user and improve their experience, in whatever medium that is.
“Good design is as little design as possible.” Less, but better—because it concentrates on the essential aspects [focus], and the products are not burdened with non-essentials [noise]. Back to purity, back to simplicity.
In fact nothing rings truer than Dieter Rams 10 Principles for Good Design. This reflects our fundamental approach to design: focused on clarity, simplicity and efficiency of communication; Swiss minimalism married to the Japanese obsession with detail—but not without a little humour, if it helps! We are experienced working with subjects encompassing fine art through to data-heavy science; making clear the incomprehensible. We recognise and understand the art and science of all subjects, which perhaps reveals out bias towards information design.
“Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
—Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Quite simply, our experience is wide-ranging, from identity through to product, from tiling murals through to technical manuals, with the core of delivered work servicing sectors including publishing, tourism, interpretation, town planning, transport planning and wayfinding.
