Greengauge 21 champion high-speed rail on a day-today basis, but they also look to reveal other opportunities to improve public transport provision.
The much reduced map shown above was developed to demonstrate the existing pattern of rail and frequent inter-urban bus services—and the connections that currently exist. Furthermore, employing a convex hull technique to pick out the natural clusters, highlighting the sub-regions that are well served by the existing rail and bus services.
The map served to both highlight the current situation and provide an impetus to local public transport operators to build on this and ‘fill the holes’ in service provision. It also framed the argument for an additional rail line through mid-Devon, to provide a viable alternative to the ‘at risk’ south coast route.
