Map Typologies

A simple diagrammatic breakdown of the five key map types, along with some example map types. Whilst I think this fairly represents the interplay and mix of types, some forms can exist in more than one area. Simply, it reveals the world of cartography is immensely diverse. You may have already noted I haven’t marked anywhere the visitor or wayfinding map as an example. Essentially, that could firt anywhere within the topographical ‘cirecle’, dependent upon what type of map would work best.
